Christina Brown

Dip. Th. Massage

Christina is involved as a Certificate Coordinator and tutor in the part time and fulltime programmes in Wellington. After seven years of clinical experience in Wellington and the Wairarapa, she is taking a break from massage to have her first child, but will continue to be involved in the teaching and administration at NZCM.

 

Carol Wilson

Dip.Th.Massage, Dip Adult Ed, RMT (MNZ)

Carol wishes to inspire students to achieve all they can on their road of discovery of the human body, massage and themselves. Carol happily juggles home life, active Massage New Zealand membership alongside tutoring in Massage, Anatomy and Physiology and supervising Clinical Practice.

Joanna Tennent

BA., Dip. Th. Massage

Academic Coordinator in Wellington and tutor
Joanna has over 16 years experience in the massage industry. She spent 7 years working in a multidisciplinary practice before moving more into private clinical practice. Since 2000 Joanna has also worked in varied teaching and academic coordinating roles at NZCM. The development of on and off site clinical practice is a key ongoing focus. Joanna has been instrumental in establishing relationships with the Phoenix, Central Pulse, Capital Swim Club and Wellington Saints in addition to providing opportunities for the students to work alongside other, allied health professionals during their study.

 

Tracy Anderson

Dip. Th. Massage, Cert. Neuromuscular Th., RMT (TMA).

Tracy combines her clinical massage work with part time teaching and student clinic supervision. She is a certified Neuromuscular therapist and specialises in treatment therapies. Tracy is currently training in touch for health kinesiology. Tracy teaches NMT techniques in Wellington.

 

Camille Attard

Diploma Therapeutic Massage Therapy

Camille started her massage studies with the college in 2001 with the certificate of massage therapy then moved on to graduate in 2005 with a diploma. She absolutely adores massage and body work, and is currently chipping away at completing a Diploma in Kinesiology.

She tutor assists at the college in the weekends on the certificate courses.

 

Iselde de Boam

Dip. Th Mass '03 NZCM Dip Rem Mass '09 Q. Academy (Au)

Iselde is an active and motivated person who loves massage and approaches it with sincerity and a genuine concern for each person. She particularly enjoys postural analysis and tailoring a massage session to be of most benefit to the client.

Iselde has taught the Dip Rem Mass and Cert IV Swedish Massage in Australia and here she teaches practical skills in the certificate classes, CT1 & CT2.

 

Melanie Brown

MHealSc(Rehab) RMT NZCHP

Mely is a remedial massage and bowen therapist, with additional training in holistic wellness (sleep, food, stress etc) and a Masters degree in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.  Her work time is shared between treatment bodywork in a physiotherapy/podiatry clinic, rehabilitation research at the University of Otago, and tutoring at the College on the research methodology and CT3 papers.  She has a keen interest in the professional role of the massage therapist, clinical reasoning and interdisciplinary collaboration.

 

Sabine Cowan

Dip. Th. Massage 2008

Building a professional relationship between medical staff and massage therapists is at the heart of this therapist. For the last 2 years she has been getting involved in the treatment of a wide variety of people and their issues through prescribed massage at a busy medical centre. Sabine joined the staff at the college in 2009 as a part-time, assisting tutor a year after completing her Diploma. Here she relishes the opportunity to share her unique experiences and her passion for massage with students.

 

Eva van Gaalen

Dip.Th.Massage, RMT(TMA)

Eva was a full time Massage Therapist between 1996 and 2008. During this period she also studied NMT, Bowen, Kinesiology, Orthobionomy and myofascial release techniques.

She has run her own clinic for three years, taught and contracted out on-site Massage, contracted to a Massage clinic and worked with other professionals in their clinic. She is currently home with two small children and is excited about sharing her knowledge and experience working part time at NZCM.

 

Barbara Gibb

Dip. Holistic Pulsing, NZ HP Acc. Teacher, Cert. in CranioSacral Therapy.

Barbara is an established CranioSacral Therapist, Holistic Pulser and Energy Alignment Therapist working in Wellington and Nelson. Personal fluidity and change dynamics reflected in body-mind are a special interest area. She brings personal enthusiasm for growth and unfolding.

 

Roger Gooch

Dip. Th. Massage

Roger trained at NZCM in 1996 and has worked as a clinical sports massage therapist for 15 yrs. He was a tutor at NZCM Auckland from 1999 to 2007 and Head of the Diploma in Clinical Sports at NZCM from 2001- 2007. Currently he is a tutor at NZCM Wellington on the Diploma in Clinical Sports.
Roger has a keen interest in Sports and working with teams. He attended 2000 Sydney  paralympics as massage therapists for NZ team and the 2004 Athens Olympics as massage therapist for NZ team.
He was Massage Director NZ Ironman 1999 and is the current President of Massage NZ 2009 .

 

Lynette Finn

Dip. Th. Massage, Cert. I & II Manual Lymph Drainage and Decongestive Therapies, Cert. Small Business Management

Empowering people with knowledge and skill is the driving force behind Lynette’s approach to both her teaching and clinical practice and gets a great deal of satisfaction from helping people reach their goals.

Lynette tutors in the full time and part time Certificate programs and Business Skills module in the Diploma program.

 

Emma Fromings

Registered Psychiatric Nurse 1986, Diploma of Massage - Oxford School of Massage 1991, Diploma of Reflexology - Oxford School of Reflexology 1992

Emma became interested in Massage and Reflexology whilst nursing in England. She trained in both therapies in Oxford, returning to NZ in 1993 to set up practice. In 1996 she established a school of Reflexology and was involved in writing the Reflexology NZQA unit standards. She has a passion for working with the feet and brings a holisitic approach to her practice with a particular interest in facilitating health through the interaction of mind and body.

Trevor Hamilton

Trev started his studies at NZCM in 2000 attending weekend courses and eventually end up by completing his diploma in 2007.Massage is his passion and as well as teaching part time in the certificate program and CT1 of the diploma he runs a part time clinic in Mana, Wellington. Trev enjoys sharing and helping people understand their bodies better though massage in a fun and practical learning environment.

 

Gabriela von Kanel Fyfe

Dip Reflexology, Dip. Th. Massage, Cert Swiss Medical Assistant, Cert Transactional Analyst (Psychotherapy) CTA., Cert Supervision, Reiki Master, Cert TFH Kinesiology.

Gabriela has worked in the natural health field for over 15 years. Her current private practice (www.hvpac.co.nz) specialises in combining talking therapy (psychotherapy) and reflexology. Gabriela's current involvement with the College is in teaching reflexology.

Eva Mengwasser 

BHlthSc and PGDipHlthSc

Eva is currently undertaking her doctoral research at Massey University looking at the social and cultural meaning of food in young people's lives. She has a Bachelor and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences, majoring in Health Promotion.

 

Lawrence Newman

Dip. Ex. Sci. (Distinction), Dip. Th. Massage, RMT (TMA).

Working in the massage industry since 1993, Lawrence has focused on sports and remedial massage in his private practice which complements his interest in competitive sports. He enjoys teaching and helping others achieve their potential. ‘My focus is always the same in regards to sports and things including stretching and fitness and again on rehab of clients back to full functionality’.

 

Michelle Richecoer

Dip. Th. Massage

Dip Th. Mass. Michelle has been working as an independent massage therapist at Ghuznee Health Associates since 2004. She has a special interest in working with people with mental health issues and heightened levels of stress. Michelle enjoys helping others find new possibilities in themselves.

 

Tessa Therkleson

PhD, Masters Research, Registered Nurse and Reflexologist

Tessa has been Director of Rato Health Clinic for 12 years offering holistic therapies for a variety of health conditions. She has a special interest in researching the therapeutic effect of external applications such as oils and plant substances. Tessa teaches reflexology at the College.

 

Julie Willbond

Dip. Body Th.

Julie worked in financial services prior to studying at NZCM. She now shares her time between the College’s professional clinic, a clinical practice at Wellington Hospital, onsite corporate massage and tutoring. Julie enjoys working with people to enable them to ‘feel the difference’ that massage brings.

 

Warrick Wood

Masters Degree in Physical Education - Specialisation in Coaching from Indiana State University

Warrick has coached basketball in Canterbury at various high schools and representative levels. Warrick also served as an assistant coach at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana while completing his masters degree. Upon graduation, he joined the Wellington Institute of Technology (Weltec) as the sport and exercise psychology tutor. Warrick plans to start work on his PhD in the coming months.
