Aromatherapy uses fragrant oils extracted from plants. These potent products have been used throughout history for the promotion and maintenance of both physical and emotional well being. Combining two of our most powerful senses, smell and touch, aromatherapy massage has been associated with a wide range of clinical benefits for the recipient. Essential oils may also be applied via inhalations, compresses, and baths or incorporated into creams for an everyday whole-body experience. The ‘chemistry’ in the essential oils works with our body’s own ‘chemistry’ and can alter our physiological and emotional states, it has been associated with tissue healing and enhancing our general sense of well being. Students on this course will be introduced to the versatile healing abilities of the essential oils; we take a scientific approach to a powerful, yet gentle and very effective, complimentary therapy.

Prerequisite: Diploma in Therapeutic Massage
7 credits
30 hours*

Body cells depend on effective movement of lymph to carry excess fluid and wastes back to the blood. Without this, tissues lose health and healing slows. Regular exercise and efficient breathing move lymph well, except when we are very stressed, immobile, or have suffered an injury. Specific lymphatic drainage techniques speed healing and increase energy levels in these situations. This is a first choice therapy for injured tissues. Specific techniques assist the movement of lymph in the body, based on knowledge of the lymphatic system. The course includes benefits to health, appropriate uses and contraindications.
